Trans-PRK laser eye surgery can be used to treat the “topography” or abnormal curvature of the cornea in keratoconus.
Only eye surgeons that are formally trained in laser eye surgery can perform this procedure correctly and safely. “Corneal surgeons” at other unsophisticated WA laser eye centres do not have the training or technical know-how in treating patients with this complex type of laser eye surgery.
After 6 months following corneal cross linking has been performed, a topographical Trans-PRK is performed using the latest corneal topography diagnostics to smoothen out a cone in keratoconus or regularising the cornea.
Every single treatment plan is highly complex and personalised. The planning is extremely sophisticated using our laser software.
Example of a keratoconus patient who was treated with a Topographical Trans-PRK. The red area on the corneal map on the top indicates the keratoconus. On the bottom it can be seen that the corneal map following a Topographical Trans-PRK is more regular and the patient is healed of their keratoconus.
Example of a corneal scar with blood vessel infiltrate caused by a Herpes infection was treated with a Topographical Trans-PRK laser eye surgery
